HHM Participates in the 2023 St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend
HHM CPAs Memphis staff participated in the 2023 St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend, joining over 20,000 participants and supporters. The group of HHM runners completed a total of 119.8 miles to support St. Jude's life-saving mission on December 2, 2023.
HHM’s Will Shankle, James Huang, Joel Freund, Ammiah Stafford, and Kaitlyn Dozier championed the HHM participation. The group's efforts began long before they gathered behind the starting line - their hard work began with months of intense training and fundraising efforts.
"I am thrilled to have competed in my first race and to have done so for such a worthy cause,” says Will Shankle, HHM staff accountant and St. Jude Hero®. “Choosing to be a St. Jude Hero® was an easy decision for me - the work St. Jude does is absolutely incredible. I set a goal for myself to not only complete the race, but to beat my time goal and my fundraising goal, and I am proud to say that I accomplished both with the support of my friends and HHM family.”
Being a St. Jude Hero® means raising funds for patients of St. Jude — kids with cancer and other life-threatening diseases — while you train for your race.
“It was my first half marathon,” says Ammiah Stafford, HHM senior accountant. “By miles 9 and 10, I was getting pretty sore, but it was so fun! The best part was when the route took you through the St. Jude campus. Some of the patients and their families lined up to wave at us and to thank us. Seeing their sweet and smiling faces made my year!”
St. Jude’s mission is to advance cures and means of prevention for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Families will never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – so they can focus on helping their child live.
There's still time to donate on behalf of HHM’s group. St. Jude Heroes have until Dec. 16 to meet their fundraising goals. Donate here.
