In late July 2020, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee announced that $150 million in Coronavirus Relief Funds would be made available to Tennessee non-profits to assist in their ongoing efforts to fight the health and economic threat of COVID-19 in our communities. While our non-profits are on the front lines of this fight, they are seeing their resources dwindle as COVID-19 health concerns have shuttered their revenue producing programs, and COVID-19 economic impacts have put a strain on donor basis and foundation investment portfolios.
The Tennessee Community CARES Program is intended to provide much needed support to non-profits and communities across Tennessee in this great time of need. The program will prioritize and look to fund coronavirus-related services for education, economic support, or any other expenses associated with the pandemic, such as additional payroll costs or the cost of personal protective equipment. Applications for this program are now open and will remain open until August 15, 2020. If all funds are not granted in the first round, they will open a second application window from September 1, 2020 through September 15, 2020.
As non-profits start looking into submitting their applications, the following are a few things to keep in mind:
- These funds are available to all Tennessee non-profits that are registered as a 501c3 organization, and your IRS determination letter will need to be submitted with your application.
- These grants will cover any eligible expenses incurred from March 1, 2020 to November 15, 2020.
- Non-profits should submit support for expenditures as incurred, but at a minimum on a monthly basis. This submission will include reports on funds expended, a narrative on the progress of the programs, and any necessary supporting documents.
