Important Changes
Important changes are coming to the Tennessee Department of Revenue's online filing and payment system for taxpayers. Launched in March 2017 taxpayers have used the Tennessee Taxpayer Access Point (TNTAP) to file their sales and use tax, liquor-by-the-drink tax, professional privilege tax, and tobacco tax. Now the TNTAP system is expanding to include franchise and excise tax, business tax, Hall income tax, and motor carrier filings and payments.Tennessee’s existing site for online filing business tax, Hall income tax, and franchise and excise tax will shut down on May 18, 2018. The new TNTAP will be available for online filing those returns starting May 29th via TNTAP. Between May 18th and 29th, the state will continue to accept returns filed electronically using a 3rd party tax software; those returns will still count as processed as of the date of submission, though confirmation of receipt will not be issued until after the conversion. Some things to keep in mind for estimated payments:
- If you have an already scheduled payment, it will be converted, there is no change to the process for payments made through 3rd party tax software.
- If you have a quarterly estimated payment due June 15th, and you will be paying after May 18th, you will need to make sure you pay through the new TNTAP webpage.
- If you already have a TNTAP account, you can link additional tax accounts (like franchise and excise) to your existing account.
Your trusted advisor can also link to your TNTAP account to help you manage your filings and payments. If your account is linked to another, you will receive a notification letter advising you of this change.A checklist of the information needed to register, as well as tutorial videos and other helpful information can be found at www.tn.gov/revenue/e-file-and-pay/tntap-information.html.
