February 3 or May 1 disaster relief deadlines:

Depending upon their location, disaster-area taxpayers who received extensions to file their 2023 returns have returns due by Feb. 3 or May 1, 2025.

It is important to note that this relief is available due to the catastrophic nature of the natural disasters in the past few months, including hurricanes, wildfires, and flooding. Taxpayers impacted by these events may also be eligible to claim casualty losses on their returns. If you have experienced damage to your property, you may be able to deduct these losses, subject to specific calculations and criteria.
