What is your role at the firm and areas of focus?

I am a Tax Partner at HHM providing tax consulting, planning and compliance services for a diverse client base. I am also involved in recruiting, marketing, staff development and tax department management activities.

Can you tell us about your journey to become a partner at our firm?

I joined the firm in 2020 after many years of professional experience in the Chicagoland area. My background equipped me with valuable skills and insights, laying the foundation for my journey to becoming a partner at HHM.

What challenges have you faced as a woman in the accounting industry, and how did you overcome them?

I have faced numerous challenging experiences throughout my journey with perseverance and determination, each contributing to my strength and resilience as a leader. I firmly believe that it is through facing challenges head-on that we grow and develop, and I am grateful for the lessons they have imparted to me. One of the most significant challenges I've encountered is balancing motherhood and a demanding career in public accounting. Family support has been essential, and I'm grateful for their support. Despite the demands of my career, I make a conscious effort to prioritize my family and be present for important events in my children's lives. From volunteering on the yearbook committee during their elementary school years to currently serving as the Vice President of Fundraising for the music boosters at their middle/high school, I have actively participated in various roles within their school communities to remain connected and engaged.

Being a working mother has been a source of pride for me. It has allowed me to instill valuable life lessons in my son and daughter, demonstrating that with determination and support, one can pursue their passions and achieve success in both their personal and professional endeavors.

What area of the firm have you made an impact?

Through my expertise and leadership, I have contributed to the firm's ability to provide comprehensive tax services to our diverse client base.

Have you had female mentors?

My greatest female mentor has been my mother, who exemplified the ability to balance a career with family life. Her guidance and example have been instrumental in shaping my approach to both my professional and personal life.

What advice would you give to other women aspiring to leadership roles in the accounting field?

My advice to aspiring female leaders is to prioritize self-care, seek out mentors and leverage networking opportunities. Confidence in oneself and one's abilities is crucial, along with a willingness to embrace challenges and learn from setbacks.

What impact do you hope to have on the next generation of female accountants?

I aspire to lead by example and demonstrate to future generations of female accountants that there are numerous paths to success in their careers. By sharing my experiences and insights, I hope to inspire others to pursue their aspirations with determination and resilience, understanding that the journey may not always be straightforward but is ultimately rewarding.
