Our Chattanooga Story

HHM’s history in Chattanooga runs deep.

In 1981, a small group of partners acquired an 18-year-old certified public accounting practice in Chattanooga. From the beginning, they set out to build a firm that delivered high-quality professional services while fostering a family-friendly, people-first culture. That foundation continues to shape who we are today.

Over 40 years later, Chattanooga remains the heart of HHM CPAs. What began as a local firm has grown into a multi-office organization with locations in Memphis, Cleveland, Tennessee, and Pensacola, Florida, supported by more than 30 partners and 250 professionals. Despite our growth, our commitment to integrity, expertise, and hard work for every client has never changed.

Growing With Chattanooga

HHM CPAs’ roots in Chattanooga run deep, and our physical presence reflects the same respect for history and commitment to growth that define our firm.

In 2007, HHM established a new home in downtown Chattanooga by relocating our offices to the historic Freight Depot Building, a nationally recognized landmark that has played many roles in the city’s story. Originally used to load and unload railcars, the building later served as a foundry and eventually a shopping mall—complete with a restaurant—before HHM purchased and restored it. The renovation honored the structure’s historic bones while transforming it into a modern professional workspace, preserving a piece of Chattanooga’s past while supporting its future.

As Chattanooga continued to grow, so did HHM. In 2024, we expanded our footprint with the construction of a new four-story, 30,000-square-foot building on King Street in the parking lot of our Freight Depot building. Designed to support our growing team and evolving client needs, the new building reflects our long-term commitment to the city and our focus on employee well-being, collaboration, and flexibility.

Today, HHM’s Chattanooga campus includes three buildings: the original Freight Depot—still actively used and deeply valued for its history and character—the new King Street building, and a small administrative office building. Together, they represent HHM’s journey in Chattanooga: honoring where we came from while investing thoughtfully in where we’re going.
